[amaran Octa Dome] Assembly & Use

How to assemble, mount, and break down the amaran Octa Dome 60, 90, and 120 octagonal softboxes, with a full specifications table.

The amaran Octa Dome series is a family of portable octagonal softboxes built for creators who want a round, wraparound quality of light in a space-saving, travel-friendly package. A simple one-snap setup lets you build or break down the softbox in seconds, and the flat-pack design makes each Octa Dome ideal for location-based shoots. The series comes in three sizes so you can match the source to the job: the Octa Dome 60 for a compact soft glow on the go, the Octa Dome 90 for lighting larger scenes on location, and the Octa Dome 120 for a more expansive source in the studio.

What's in the Box

Each Octa Dome ships as a complete kit. The contents are identical across the three sizes, matched to the Octa Dome you purchased:

  • amaran Octa Dome (60, 90, or 120) x 1
  • 1.5 Stop Diffusion Cloth x 1 (front diffusion)
  • Inner Baffle Diffusion x 1
  • Grid x 1 (honeycomb grid for beam control)
  • Carrying Bag x 1

Compatibility

The Octa Dome uses a Bowens mount speed ring, so it attaches to any lamp head with a standard Bowens mount interface, including amaran and Aputure point-source LED fixtures. Fit the softbox to your light before adding the diffusion and grid.

Installation

Preparation: Before installing the softbox, remove the protective cover from the speed ring. Ensure that the softbox and its accessories are in good condition.

  1. Remove the protective cover. Lift the protective cover off the speed ring in the direction shown.
  2. Unfold the softbox. Pull up the expansion handle in the indicated direction to fully open the softbox, and ensure it is securely locked. Adjust the diffusion fabric and grid attachment positions according to your lighting requirements to achieve the best soft light effect.
  3. Connect to the light fixture. Align the assembled softbox with the light fixture interface. Securely attach the Bowens mount speed ring to the lamp head, ensuring that the softbox is firmly fixed in place.
  4. Adjust the grid. Attach the honeycomb grid over the front diffusion when you want to narrow the beam and reduce spill.

Disassembly

Releasing the support rods: When disassembling, use two fingers to press the two latches on the base of the softbox simultaneously toward the center. This releases the locking mechanism, allowing the softbox to automatically collapse and fold flat for storage.
