[amaran Light Dome] Assembly & Use

How to assemble, mount, use, and disassemble the amaran Light Dome 60 and 90 parabolic softboxes, including full specifications for both sizes.

The amaran Light Dome series is a family of soft, parabolic light modifiers designed to emulate natural light sources like the sun. Their 16-sided, near-perfect-circle shape wraps subjects in soft, even light. The Light Dome 60 creates a round catchlight that flatters close-up portraits and interviews, while the larger Light Dome 90 delivers a broader, soft spread ideal for larger studio setups and group shots.

Both sizes use a quick-release rod system: pull on the 16 rods to lock the frame into its parabolic shape. The Light Domes are best suited to creators in permanent studio setups who do not need to transport their gear frequently.

What's in the Box

Each Light Dome ships as a complete kit. Contents are identical for both sizes, matched to the size you purchase:

  • 1.5 Stop Diffusion Cloth x 1 (front diffusion)
  • Inner Baffle Diffusion x 1 (internal diffusion)

Mount Compatibility

The Light Dome attaches to your lamp head with a Bowens mount speed ring. It is compatible with any Bowens mount light fixture.

Assembly & Installation

Preparation

Before installing the softbox, remove the protective cover from the speed ring. Confirm that the softbox and all accessories are intact and undamaged.

Expanding the Frame

  1. First, expand the four main support rods of the softbox into a cross shape.
  2. Then gradually lift the remaining 12 support rods one by one.
  3. When you hear a click, the support rods are securely locked into the base.
  4. Adjust the diffusion fabric and grid attachment positions as needed to achieve the best soft-light effect.

Connecting to the Light Fixture

Align the assembled softbox with the light fixture interface. Securely attach the Bowens mount speed ring to the lamp head, making sure the softbox is firmly fixed in place.

Disassembly

During disassembly, use two fingers to press the two latches on the base of the softbox simultaneously toward the center. This releases the locking mechanism, allowing the softbox to automatically collapse and fold back into its original shape.

Tip: Symmetrically fold the support rods along the diameter of the softbox base. This reduces wear and tear on the support rods and helps extend the lifespan of the softbox.
